Paris Hilton didn't think this mock-art titled "The Simpleton Life starring Paris and Nicole" from The Gallery of the Absurd (GOTA) is very funny, so she struck back and had her lawyer tell GOTA and DListed blogger Michael K to take the offensive picture down. P-Hil's lawyer expounded:
“This poster clearly implies Ms. Hilton has loathsome diseases and also implies Ms. Hilton uses Vicodin. The inferences . . . are false and defamatory.“
What's ironic is that DListed wasn't the only blog who posted this picture so why not go after all those blogs too, and it's not like GOTA hasn't made fun of Paris before. There's been this, this, and this which shows Hilton with crabby companions ala Hello Kitty style. In the original Simpleton Life boat pic, there were some fresh water crabs crawling on the boat from Paris' crotch area, but the artist 14 of GOTA took them off until further notice from her lawyer. Perhaps, Paris has just had it with the DListed and GOTA blogs.
My question is: Is this picture really false and defamatory against Hilton? Nicole has been silent in all of this so far. If you look at what the artist has depicted, there is nothing in the drawing that no one hasn't heard of before. Granted I can see why Paris didn't like it, and it is mean spirited, but this is an artist's interpretation of Paris Hilton's celebrity image. What's the line between mean and defamatory? Is Paris reaping what she sows?
For the time being, the bloggers are leaving the drawing up until some wrath of legality makes them yank it down. Personally, I think the drawing is really pushing the envelope, but there's nothing in it that surprises me.
