Oh Valerie! We get that you're unhappy with your weight gain, and like many women, you want to drop the l-b-s and be a skinny Minnie again, but why put yourself on the cover of People magazine, say, "Yeah I'm fat", and then tell us that you are using the shout heard around the world as a way to lose weight so you "won't mess up." Geez! Be kinder to yourself Val.
Valerie is going to be a new spokesperson for Jenny Craig, so the very public "I'm skinny-fying!" announcement is part of the campaign, as we watch Valerie shrink in size, due of course, to the use of the Jenny Craig program. Personally, this is when I don't like weight loss program advertising. Fellow Jenny Craig spokesperson Kirstie Alley offered this advice to Valerie:
"Even if Wolfie (Valerie's son) wants to go to In-N-Out Burger, don't do it, because paparazzi will photograph you!"
That's so sad. Mom can't take her kid to get a burger because the paparazzi will take photos and then slap headlines like, "One Chow At a Time. Bertinelli slips on Jenny Craig." The one who suffers is the kid. His life gets twisted because mom is on some high profile diet. Valerie's weight loss plight doesn't feel empowering, it feels like desperation and exploitation. Maybe harsh words, but why must be so harsh on ourselves in order to be pretty and thinner?
The new People issue hits stands this Friday.
