Kate Moss is “model of the year.” Does fashion have no sense of social responsibility?
I am pissed! I am disgusted
and maddened to no un-end. The British fashion world names Kate Moss model of
the year. This is so utterly appauling, and wrong on so many levels. Have these fashionistas absolutely no sense of social repsonsibility.
The British fashion world
has no comprehension at all as to
the bad example they are setting by giving Kate this award. I thought the “too-skinny
model” blinders were horrifying, but this is much worse, so much worse. They
are rewarding this woman for getting more famous because of getting caught on
film blowing coke up her nose, and let’s not forget that this wasn’t the first
time Kate ever used the drug. What kind of role model is that? Let’s also not
forget that she is now engaged to a raging drug addict who cannot stay in rehab
long enough to stay clean. So we glorify coke heads if they are pretty and rich.
How does a parent explain to
their teenage daughter who models but then gets caught doing cocaine that doing
drugs is going to destroy her life. The daughter retorts, “Doing coke can’t
hurt my future because look at Kate Moss. She won awards, and got more covers
and assignments because she did coke, so why can’t I?” This scenario will
happen all over the place, and fashionistas don’t kid yourself. In fact, CSI
Miami has already had an episode where a model stages a controversy and later openly
admits she did it so that she could get more covers like Kate Moss.
Kate Moss does not get held
accountable like any of the rest of us would for her disgraceful and illegal act
because she is a famous, pretty model, plain and simple. And seriously, if you
and I got busted doing the same thing, we would have suffered far more
punishment than what Kate got. Beauty and money dictates how people are
punished, and this is proof.
If Kate was a politician she
would have joined the shame of disgrace and never be re-elected ever again. If
Kate was a teacher, she would have been fired and never allowed to work around
children again. If Kate were a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, the board of
directors would have fired her faster than Carly. Why? Because there is a thing
called responsibility. You don’t reward people especially high profile people
for behaving irresponsibly and recklessly.
“The fashion world remains
unapologetic for using Moss as its cover girl and awarding her for professional
achievements rather than her private life.“
This is the most irresponsible
thing I have ever heard. I cannot believe that everyone in the fashion world agrees
with this. When someone is a public
figure, you cannot separate their private life from their professional life
when it comes to something like drug use, and especially when there is pictures
of it. But apparently, it’s okay for pretty people, or more like famous pretty
people. She said “I’m sorry.” That’s fine, but you don’t go reward her with the
equivalent of an Oscar in the fashion world.
And, let’s take a look at
all the companies who hired Kate afterwards because she’s “popular.” There are
thousands of other models to choose from in this world, and don’t tell me you
chose Kate Moss because there wasn’t anyone better.
“Bryan Roberts, analyst at London trend spotting agency Planet Retail, said Moss was
one of the world's top celebrities, and, rightly or wrongly, guaranteed column
inches. She's become a bigger name since the scandal and anyone who affiliates
himself with her name will reap the publicity.“
This is when consumerism
makes me sick to the core. You hire someone because she has controversy
attached to her which you’ll take because it’s media attention. Good attention
or bad attention, it doesn’t matter, it’s just attention to get sales. What do
you people stand for?
This is highly unacceptable. Everyone, please, if you are as
outraged as I am about this, then make your voice heard. Blog, tell your
friends, write letters, whatever, just say something. Thank you!
